Argentinean President advocates for Venezuela’s incorporation into MERCOSUR

La Plata, Feb 26 ABN.- The President of Argentina, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, advocated for the incorporation of Venezuela to the Common Southern Market (MERCOSUR) in order to complete the energy equation of the region, as it was reported by diariohoy.net.

“I have said it everywhere, and sometimes it has been understood as a defense to its (Venezuela) president, but indeed is just rationality in energy issues”, said the president.

“We need Venezuela in the Latin American energy equation in order to make sustainable our growth”, she added.

Cristina Fernández defended the decisions made by her government on energy issues, and she criticized those predicting a catastrophe in this matter.

“When we talk about energy, we have to see it as a XXI century and continental problem. Some media stated that energy problems were only happening in Argentina because it was a matter of planing and lack of administration and they were always scaring people saying that it was an imminent catastrophe and it was just about to happen”, she stated.

Moreover, the President of Argentina explained that the meeting held last Saturday in the Presidential Palace of Argentina with her counterparts from Barazil, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and Bolivia, Evo Morales, was aimed to form a coordinator group to rationally administer the energy exchange in the region.

Cristina Kirchner pointed out that the interconnected system of the region requires three basic principles: rationality, solidarity, and investment.

Furthermore, she defended her energy policy stating that Argentina expanded 11% the local power generation offer, adding 2 thousand 569 megawatts.

“This year we have added 2 thousand 569 megawatts, which represents an expansion of 11% of the power generation offer”, she stressed.
